Fourth grade is that fabulous
year when abstract thinking begins to develop and the child's thought processes
and imagination take flight. Already grounded in the basics, the fourth grader
can begin the enjoyable task of using his skills to communicate what he is
learning and thinking. Our fourth grade curriculum still provides plenty of
practice in the essentials while providing interesting and provocative books
that inspire a young person's mind.
Our teacher's
plan book, called the
Corebook,
helps you to organize your daily schedules and record what you have done while
ensuring that you meet the objectives for the year. It also provides
guidelines for narrations and copywork, outlines for
teaching geography and health, and timetable lists.
By the way,
we know every child is different-- feel free to mix and match between the grade
levels to create the best "fit" for your child!

Following
the timeline for a classical education, our fourth graders
study modern history starting in the 1800s to
present time. Our fourth graders will
gain a sense of time as they fill in and personalize the
Book of the Centuries (a Charlotte Mason concept.) Our
teacher's plan book, or Corebook,
gives guidelines for scheduling.
Geography lessons and memory lists for the
time period are also contained in the
Corebook.

4th grade Literature
Kit: $70.35

(You may also purchase items individually.)
Because our fourth graders have such a large reading list
in the history program, we've kept our literature reading
list short and sweet. Your
child will continue to develop his love for poetry as it
is covered in the natural manner that Charlotte Mason
advocates. Literature will be one class that your child
will not want to miss!

Our fourth graders start a new
math program this year: the highly acclaimed Saxon math.
Unlike many math programs in schools today, Saxon, while
teaching a new concept in every lesson, manages also to
provide sufficient review of previous concepts. Right now
we do not carry Saxon products. Please use the link
below for purchasing information.

Our fourth graders continue becoming excellent writers
using the Wordsmith Apprentice book in addition

studied this year with the aid of Emma Serl's
wonderful book, Primary Language Lessons, which
intertwines great literature, fables, folklore and maxims
with grammar and language arts lessons. During the second semester, a Language
Practice workbook is available to give student's extra
practice in the grammar rules they've learned and to
expose them to the types of questions they may see on a
