First grade sets the pace for the rest of a child's education.  It is our goal to help lay a strong foundation in the basic skills of reading, writing, and math so that your child can move forward with confidence and success in the years to come. 

     Taking advantage of a first grader's love for a good story, we offer a literature based history program utilizing age appropriate and engaging books through which the child will be able to "live" in the past. We also provide an exciting science program which emphasizes nature study in addition to covering other scientific concepts using fun, informative books.

     An extraordinary teacher's plan book called the Corebook helps you to organize your daily schedule and record what you have done. The Corebook provides guidelines for narrations, geography study, memory lists, health and safety, and copywork, and helps ensure you meet the objectives for the year.

     By the way, we know every child is different-- feel free to mix and match between the grade levels to create the best "fit" for your child!

The second part of our reading curriculum, individual reading, provides students with delightful books they will want to read on their own.  (You can choose the program that best meets your child's needs.)  Our goal is to provide your child with literature he will find enjoyable and within his ability range so that reading will become a pleasurable experience, valued for a lifetime.

This year your first grader will embark on a fascinating journey through time, studying ancient civilizations. We have selected colorful and intriguing "living" books that illustrate the civilizations of times past, tell the fascinating stories and myths connected with each ancient culture, and introduce the famous and notable characters who shaped human history.
Your student will also enjoy filling in and personalizing the Book Of the Centuries, a Charlotte Mason concept, and will have fun learning Geography using our "natural" approach (found in teacher's Corebook)
