The Book of Centuries-

This is the fun and useful way for your child to reinforce his learning.  Have him record what he learns in his own Book of Centuries- a timeline in a book- which will become a treasured companion!
At the top of each page is an area for the title (where the child writes in the name of the person/event/geographical concept being studied) and relevant dates.  There is also a timeline on which the child can make a 'dot' in the appropriate place.
On each page are four boxes in which the child can place things that will reinforce the importance of the subject. (Those of you who like lapbooking will have great ideas, I'm sure!)  The boxes can contain pictures of the subject, lists, maps, quotes, causes & effects, flora and fauna, monuments, architecture, etc.  Click here for pictures and more information.

This item is a pdf file which will be emailed to you- you need to make sure you enter a valid email address when ordering.  Thanks!

The Shakespeare Stealer
Don't miss out on this fantastic book!  The story of orphaned Widge, who is forced by his master to attempt to steal the great Shakespeare's newest work, Hamlet.  Great plot and excellent portrayal of the time period.

Ocean of Truth: The Story of Isaac Newton
This account of the life of Isaac Newton will bring alive to your child this great scientist who developed calculus, worked out the mathematical details of the Law of Gravity, and studied the properties of color.  A very enjoyable read!  Christian themes.

America's Paul Revere
I wanted to offer a less expensive book on Revere, but this one was so good that I had to go with it.  Written by Esther Forbes, author of Johnny Tremain.

The Boy Who Loved to Draw
Set in the American colonial era, this is the story of the noted painter who is considered to be the 'father' of American art, Benjamin West (1738-1820).  Of course, colonial type illustrations accompany the story on every page!

Louis Braille
Another wonderfully written biography by Margaret Davidson.  I tested this book on a girl who did not like to read.  I was pleased when, instead of complaining, she actually asked to read the next chapter each day.  (An added benefit is that any child who listens to/reads this book will gain an appreciation for safety around sharp objects.)

Buttons for General Washington
An exciting story about a boy who secretly carries messages to George Washington during the Revolutionary War.  Your child will be able to read this one on her own.

The Reb and the Redcoats
This book set during the Revolutionary War is unusual in that it is told from the viewpoint of a British family who is entrusted with the care of an American prisoner of war.  Heartwarming!
Christian themes.

Another wonderful biography written by Margaret Davidson.  This book tells the inspiring story of Ben Franklin, statesman, printer, author, inventor, founder of first public library, and much more!

How the U.S. Government Works
This book gives simple explanation of the three branches of our government, and what they do.  It is the best book on the subject that I've come across.  However, it is more suited to a middle-schooler than to an elementary-grade student.  When teaching younger children, I usually use this book as a resource for me- I read a section and then explain the concept (using the chalkboard as a visual help) in my own words.

The United States of America
I wish you could see the wonderful illustrations in this book!  I had several "state" books covering tables, floors, etc.  This is the one my girls could not leave alone.  Each state is beautifully drawn; mountains, rivers and major cities are all visible.  Each state also has charming pictures of its state bird, flower, tree etc. along with pertinent interesting facts.

Pocahontas and the Strangers by Clyde  Roberts Bulla
This is my favorite rendition of the Pocahontas/John Smith story.  (Those of you who have read Bulla's other books know why!)

The State Sticker Book
We now have The State Sticker Book which was originally a part of the 3rd grade curriculum! After waiting nearly a year for this wonderful book, the publishing company finally reprinted it!  This book is outstanding for teaching elementary students about the different states in our great country.  Each state is covered on one page with info such as state motto, bird, capital, interesting facts and trivia.  Along with fun "cartoony" pictures, there are stickers of state flowers, flags, and capitals.  In the back of the book there is a "Capital Matching" game, information about the United States,  national symbols, holidays, and the words to our national anthem.  A fun learning tool at an unbeatable price.

-You only need either this book or the one above called The United States of America.  However, both are great.
