Beowulf,
A New Telling The oldest epic in the English language retold for children- I've looked at a lot of retellings, and this is the one I like the best for elementary aged students.

Eragon The story of a poor farm boy who finds a dragon egg and the exciting adventures that ensue. Knopf decided to publish this book when one of their editors related how his son actually read the whole book even though he hated to read. This anti-reading son even exclaimed, "This book is better than Harry Potter!" The two boys I tested it on (ages 11 and 13) said that it got off to a slow start, but that they loved it and planned to read the rest of the upcoming series. This New York Times bestseller that was written by a homeschooler! |
